Revitalization of Chung Hsing New Village

On June 18, 2018, at the 3606th meeting of the Executive Yuan, the Premier instructed the National Development Council (NDC) “to plan the allocation of offices and dormitories in Chung Hsing New Village after the opening of the Chung Hsing New Village Revitalization Project Office.” The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics and Ministry of Finance were also instructed to provide support. On July 20th, the NDC established the Chung Hsing New Village Revitalization Project Office to plan the allocation of office and dormitories as well as maintain pubic amenities relating to the project. On September 7, 2018, the NDC passed a resolution to take over maintenance operations for Chung Hsing New Village on January 1, 2019.

Chung Hsing New Village has good public amenities and meets all daily life needs. In practical terms, the revitalization project started from administrative agencies and gave priority to agencies with a need for office and dormitory space after reorganization. On October 15, 2018, after listening to a “Progress Report on the Revitalization of Chung Hsing New Village,” Premier Lai Ching-te directed the National Property Administration to continue its ongoing inventory and coordinate with agencies currently leasing space, so their relocation to Chung Hsing New Village can be prioritized where their leases end.

The NDC will continue to effectively integrate resources and make full use of office space. As such, steady revitalization and overall planning, such as preserving and maintaining the cultural landscape, will be used to gradually promote the efficient use of facilities. In addition, the NDC will also cooperate with related departments and promote public-private partnerships to breathe new life into the area, in ways that showcase the local cultural and natural landscape. This will boost prosperity in the Nantou area and help to better balance economic development in Taiwan, while restoring Chung Hsing New Village to its former glory.
